Moore Opera Center Announces 2023-24 Season

By David Salazar

University of Houston’s Moore Opera Center has announced its 2023-24 season, which will include three productions. This is the first season under Artistic Director Kathleen Belcher and Music Director Keith Chambers.

“I am thrilled about the operas we are producing this season and for the opportunities we are giving our students. In selecting the operas, we wanted to achieve two things: vary the languages and styles of the operas and find as many performing opportunities for as many people as possible,” said Belcher in an official press statement.

First up is a production of the double bill of “Les Enfants et les Sortileges” and “Monsieur Choufleuri restera chez lui.”

“The French double bill is special in that there are about twenty named roles. This opportunity allows undergraduate students to assume roles rather than being limited to ensemble participation in the chorus,” Belcher noted.

Performance Dates: Oct. 26 – 29, 2023

Next up is Léhar’s ever-popular “The Merry Widow.”

Performance Dates: Feb. 1 -4, 2024

The season draws to a close with “Così fan tutte.”

Performance Dates: April 11 – 14, 2024
