Monteverdi Festival Unveils 2024 Edition

The Monteverdi Festival in Cremona has unveiled its 2024 edition. Here is a rundown of the vocal performances on offer.

First is “Vespro della Beata Vergine” with the Accademia Bizantina and Coro Ghislieri under conductor Ottavio Dantone.

Performance Date: May 29, 2024

The festival will present “L’Orfeo” in a production directed by Olivier Fredj. Francesco Corti conducts Il Pomo d’Oro.

Performance Date: June 14 & 21, 2024

“Politico Monteverdiano” honors the 400th anniversary of “Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda” in performances directed by Roberto Catalano and conducted by Antonio Greco. The showcase will feature winners of the International Cavalli Monteverdi Baroque Competition. Also on the program is the Madrigals in a “Rappresentativo Style.”

Performance Date: June 15 & 16, 2024

Sopranist Samuel Mariño will headline “When Farinelli Met Monteverdi.” The concert, which Marcello Di Lisa will conduct will feature music by Monteverdi, Corelli, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, and Caldara.

Countertenor Nicolò Balducci headlines “Amore Dolore,” a concert featuring music by Monteverdi, Finazzi, Telemann, and Porsile.

Baritone Mauro Borgioni stars in “Il Canzoniere Immaginario di Claudio Monteverdi,” a concert showcasing music by Monteverdi, Frescobaldi, Marini, Gesualdo, D’India, Ferrari, and Falconieri.

“Selva Morale e Spirituale” will feature works by Monteverdi, Castello, and Fontana. William Christie leads Les Arts Florissants.

Performance Date: June 20, 2024

Soprano Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli stars in “Enemies of Love.” The program, which is conducted by Massimiliano Toni and directed by Deda Cristina Colonna, features works by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Händel, and Vivaldi.

Performance Date: June 21, 2024

Soprano Giulia Bolcato stars in “Che Si Può Fare” alongside the Remer Ensemble. They perform works by B. Strozzi.

Voces Suaves headlines “Monteverdi’s Muse” and music by Monteverdi, Harmelin, Caccini, Bavviera, da Gagliano, and Piccinini.

“Orpheus Rhapsody,” a unique take on the famed “Orfeo” will be presented as part of a program that also features “Clorinda and Tancredi: Chromatic Concert.” Simone Enrico Loprevite provides vocals in “Orpheus” while Simona Severini sings in “Clorinda and Tancredi.”

Federico Maria Sardelli conducts Monteverdi’s “Missa in Illo Temporare.” He is joined by Modo Antiquo.

Performance Date: June 22, 2024

Antonio Greco leads the Coro e Orchestra Monteverdi Festival and Cremona Antiqua in “The Masters of St. Marks,” a program showcasing music by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Gabrieli, and Legrenzi.

Performance Date: June 23, 2024

Cecilia Bartoli headlines a Gala Concert that includes Les Musiciens du Prince under Gianluca Capuano.
