By Francisco Salazar

Brent Assink has been named interim CEO and President of The Minnesota Orchestra.

Assink will take over Michelle Miller Burns, who is leaving in September to lead the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Burns has been president and CEO of Minnesota’s largest performing arts organization since 2018.

Assink will split his time between Minnesota and California, where he lives.

In a statement, orchestra’s board Chair Nancy Lindahl said “Brent Assink is one of the great leaders of the orchestral industry.”

Assink previously served as executive director of the San Francisco Symphony and his creative partnership with then-Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas brought forward projects such as the American Mavericks festivals, the Keeping Score multi-media series, and SFS Media. He was previously the president of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
