Minnesota Opera to Present ‘Ópera Afuera’
By David SalazarMinnesota Opera is set to present “Ópera Afuera” at the Allianz Field on Sept. 22, 2021.
The showcase, which will spotlight Latin American music, will star Andres Acosta, Vanessa Alonzo, Vanessa Becerra, Levi Hernandez, and Zoie Reams.
The concert will be divided into three parts with the first section highlighting Zarzuela, mariachi music from Mexico, and vals criollo from Peru. In the second part of the performance, audiences will hear excerpts from the European catalogue that have historical significance in Latin American opera tradition; this will include such works as “L Bohème,” “Carmen,” and “Rigoletto.” Finally, the concert will conclude with a sample of Latinx culture’s contribution to opera, with an emphasis on late 20th century and 21st century opera.
“Ópera Afuera celebrates the music of the Spanish-speaking world through song, opera and instrumental music,” said Director David Rademés Toro in a press release. “It reacquaints audiences with popular classic songs while introducing forgotten gems.”
All attendees must either show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours of the event. Guests under 12 are encouraged to provide proof of a negative test 72 hours before the event but are not required. All guests will be required to wear masks in the venue.
