Minnesota Opera to Open Luminary Arts Center in September 2022

Minnesota Opera has announced the expansion of its campus with the purchase of the Luminary Arts Center (previously the Lab Theater).

The 8,000 square foot space sits beside Minnesota Opera Center and is currently being renovated. The renovation includes front-of-house updates, acoustic treatments, advancements for the backstage mechanics, and new flooring for a variety of performances.

In September of this year, the new venue is scheduled to open and host new and returning artists, as well as staged productions for Minnesota Opera.

Minnesota Opera President and General Director Ryan Taylor said in a press release, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce the Luminary Arts Center as a part of our North Loop home. The new name for the venue speaks to the space’s role in revealing, discovering, and illuminating the work and ideas of artists in our community. It builds upon the illustrious history of the building, which has had several different names over the years. We are honored to be a part of the life of the space and serve as stewards of this community resource in its next chapter.”
