Mill City Summer Opera Announces Its ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’ Cast

By Francisco Salazar
Mill City Summer Opera has announced the cast and creative team for its Summer 2019 production, “Così Fan Tutte.”
The company announced that the opera will be directed by MSCO’s new artistic director Crystal Manich and will star Minnesota natives Heather Johnson as Despina, Sarah Larsen as Dorabella, Andrew Wilkowske in the role of Don Alfonso) and Karin Wolverton as Fiordiligi. Rounding out the cast will be Javier Abreu in the role of Ferrando while  Sidney Outlaw will sing Guglielmo.
The designers of the production will be Minnesota-based, with costumes by Alice Fredrickson, lighting design by Paul Hackenmueller, and scenic design by Annie Henley. The work will be led by conductor Brian DeMaris.
In a press release Manich noted that for her first MCSO season, she selected “Così Fan Tutte” because  “Mozart was a master at holding up a mirror to society and ‘Così’ stresses the human desire to achieve fidelity in romantic relationships—and its precarious nature. For our production in the Mill City Ruins, we are looking at the direct impact of war on young people who, out of desire for escape, are sucked into romantic farces that lead to mistaken identity and uncontrollable confusion.”
“Così Fan Tutte” is scheduled to be performed from July 12 through the 24, 2019.
