By Francisco Salazar

Mill City Summer Opera has announced that Verdi’s “Rigoletto” will be presented during the 2020 season.

The masterwork will be showcased in a production by director Katherine M. Carter with a cast that includes Eric McKeever as Rigoletto, Amy Owens as Gilda, Daniel Montenegro as the Duke, and Hidenori Inoue as Sparafucile. The role of Maddalena will be played by Metropolitan Opera star Renée Tatum. Emily Senturia will conduct.

In a press statement Cory Johnson, MCSO Executive Director remarked, “It’s going to be another thrilling summer of opera. With Katherine’s bold vision paired with an acclaimed cast of artists, Season 9 promises to be our most imaginative yet!”

Meanwhile Carter noted, “I look forward to the opportunity to connect with vibrant, engaged audience members who have shown themselves to be energized by seeing opera in non-traditional venues. This site-specific version of Rigoletto, where the performers can move throughout the space, will change the way they see opera yet again with an intimate, immersive experience.”

“Rigoletto” will be presented six times at Paikka, a unique 200-seat performance/event space in the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul. Performances run from July through 23, 2020.
