The Dresdner Philharmonie has named conductor Miguel Sepúlveda as its inaugural Sir Donald Runnicles Fellow.

The announcement was made after an intensive audition process. Sepúlveda’s two-year appointment will include assisting Runnicles on projects during the 2024-25 season as well as conducting concerts in 2025-26.

In a statement, Runnicles said, “I am excited to have discovered Miguel Sepúlveda, who really impressed the orchestra and me in the auditions. I am very much looking forward to accompanying him on his artistic journey.”

Sepúlveda is currently one of the six “Designate Winners” of Rotterdam’s International Conducting Competition who will compete in the final in June 2025. He previously reached the semi-final of the Malko Conducting Competition 2024 and made his debut with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in July 2023. He has conducted the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Scottish Symphony.

His upcoming schedule includes performances with the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck and Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, among others.
