On March 4, 2023, Mid Wales Opera will close its season with a new production of Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel.”

The production will be sung in English, with a cast of young professional artists, joined by a chorus of children assembled locally from each of the theaters where the production will tour. Company Music Director Jonathan Lyness has created a new reduced orchestration for partner orchestra Ensemble Cymru.

Lyness and Director Richard Studer lead a cast comprised of Charlotte Badham as Hansel, Alys Mererid Roberts as Gretel, Philip Smith as Father, Rebecca Afonwy-Jones as Mother/Witch, Sian Roberts as Dew Fairy, and Beca Davies as Sandman.

The Mid Wales Opera production will also run on March 7 at Theatr Clwyd in Mold, March 9 at Pontio in Bangor, March 11 at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon, March 14 at Aberyswyth Arts Centre, March 16 at Torch Theatre in Milford Haven, March 18 at Courtyard in Hereford, March 21 at Ffwrnes in Llanelli, and March 23 at The Riverfront in Newport.
