Mid Wales Opera Submits Appeal for Funding to Arts Council Wales

By David Salazar

Mid Wales Opera has submitted an appeal to Arts Council Wales to reconsider its withdrawal of funding.

The company made the announcement amidst its Small Stages Tour, which began this week with a performance of “Beatrice and Benedict.”

“We have this week submitted an appeal to the Arts Council,” said Gareth Williams, Chair of the Board of MWO, per an official press statement issued by the company. “The Board decided we owe it to our staff, the singers and musicians who we employ and our audiences to formally ask the Arts Council to reconsider its decision.”

Arts Council Wales made the announcement in late September, taking away its multi-annual funding from the company. Mid Wales Opera was the latest company to lose such funding following the  English National Opera and Glyndebourne, among others.
