Michaela Schuster Replaces Jamie Barton In ‘Die Walküre’

By Francisco Salazar

Jamie Barton has canceled Thursday’s performance of Wagner’s “Die Walküre.”

The Metropolitan Opera announced via social media that the role of Fricka will be sung by Michaela Schuster, replacing Jamie Barton on April 25.

Schuster made her role debut at the Met in 2018 in the role of Klytämnestra in “Elektra.” OperaWire notes during her debut, she” impressed mightily in her belated Met debut. She has a massive instrument that carries throughout the hall with boundless resonance.”

Schuster is scheduled to sing Waltraute in “Götterdämmerung,” which opens on April 27.

Schuster joins a cast that includes Stuart Skelton, Christine Goerke, Eva-Maria Westbroek, Greer Grimsley, and Gunther Groissbock. Philippe Jordan conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Barton returns to the stage on April 29 for “Das Rheingold.”
