Michael Volle, Brindley Sherratt & Johannes Martin Kränzle Lead Opernhaus Zürich Reopening Night

Opernhaus Zürich has announced that it will reopen on September 20, 2020, with the fully staged production of Modest Mussorgsky’s gigantic opera “Boris Godunov.”

The cast for the opera includes Michael Volle, Lina Dambrauskaité, Irène Friedli, John Daszak, Konstantin Shushakov, Brindley Sherratt, Edgaras Montvidas, Oksana Volkova, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Alexei Botnarciuc, Iain Milne, Katia Ledoux, Spencer Lang, Valeriy Murga, Savelii Andreev, Ilya Altukhov, and Brent Michael Smith.

Kirill Karabits will conduct the production by Barrie Kosky. The evening will feature Chor der Oper Zürich, and SoprAlti der Oper Zürich.

The opera house has deployed very stringent COVID-19 safety measures, which include mandatory wearing of face masks at all times, including during the performance. The number of seats in the auditorium has been limited to 900, in order to comply with the regulations by the Swiss federal and local authorities. Disinfectant dispensers have been installed throughout the opera house.

Subsequent performances of “Boris Godunov” will be held on Sep. 23 & 26, and Oct. 9, 16 & 20, 2020.
