Michael Spyres Leads Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Idomeneo’

The Metropolitan Opera is set to present a revival of Mozart’s “Idomeneo.”

The production, which is set to run between Sept. 28 and Oct. 20, will be conducted by Manfred Honeck, the music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

The cast will also include Michael Spyres in the title role of the king of Crete, Ying Fang as Ilia, Federica Lombardi as the Greek princess Elettra, Kate Lindsey as Idamante, Paolo Fanale as Arbace; and Issachah Savage as the High Priest.

The production by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle premiered in 1982 production and blends the grandeur of ancient myth with the elegance of Enlightenment ideals.

For those not in the theater, the work will be broadcast on Oct. 6 and 20 on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SiriusXM Channel 355. On April 22, 2023, the opera will be broadcast over the Toll Brothers–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
