On August 19, 2026, Michael Schade was punched in the face after being cut off by a vehicle.

The tenor recounted the story via social media on August 21 and said, “Yes, I am singing tomorrow morning ( having arrived happily in Klagenfurt already) and thanks, dear friends, for all the love, words of support, your outrage, your disbelief, and your support globally!! I have not had time yet to respond to your lines of support!!!
The swelling is down somewhat , my upper teeth in my left upper cheek feel like I’ve had a root canal, while the top of my nose hurts and I have a sore Nasenbein- aka the bone in your nose- and yes,that all smarts – but music shall prevail!”

He added, “THIS (beside it all being rather a shocking experience ) is what that thug did to me on Wednesday, ( I shall spare you the elbow and knee scrapes) punching me in the face, as hard as he could, and literally knocking me off of my bike – I mean imagine the force it takes, since I am not exactly little and my heavy bike ( which I’ve accumulated some 3000KM on accident free ) is an extra tall frame!! All that , just because I complained at him for cutting me off… which he did and he had thus already placed me in great danger with his vehicle, and had just about caused an accident via impact of myself and his car, or, by me having to potentially veer off into the building on the right of the bike path thanks to his leaving me no room with his precious car turning left and way to quickly into the bike lane -… before I knew it, he jumped out of the vehicle like a berserker and yelled at me and the next thing I remember, beside a huge noise, is waking up on the ground very stunned- now, after he hit me ( having stopped his car on the crosswalk) he tried to get back in his vehicle and drive off (yes that’s attempted Fahrerflucht!) ,BUT about thirty people formed a wall of bodies and thus stopped him!yes there is video which the police have…”

He concluded his post by stating, “There is about twenty video views given to the police and statements against him and thus my word is heavily weighed against his – yes, I have his license plate and picture and video evidence of this attack ( as does the police from the witnesses there, but I have sworn to myself, that I will not help make this individual famous for his infamy- a “man” who very much looked and acted the part of the thug that he is, and who seemed to greatly enjoy his ultra modern masculine jacked up body builder self!! And yet music shall win over darkness tomorrow – I won’t let it be otherwise Thank you all for your support!”

This season, Schade performs concerts in Lubeck, Hamburg, Paris, and Prague, among others.
