BBC Radio3 will broadcast Garsington Opera’s production of Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” on July 17, 2021.

The opera will star Miah Persson as the Marshallin with Hanna Hipp as Octavian. Other cast members include Madison Leonard as Sophie von Faninal, Derrick Ballard as Baron Ochs, Richard Burkhard as Faninal, Oliver Johnston as the Italian singer, Kitty Whately as Annina, and Colin Judson as Valzacchi, among others.

Most notable about this production is that Persson, who has been a major exponent of the role of Sophie throughout her career, makes her debut as the Marshallin in this recording.

Jordan de Souza conducts the Garsington Opera Chorus and Philharmonia Orchestra. The performance was recorded in June 2021 and features the 2019 production by Eberhard Kloke.

The performance will be presented in conversation with Observer critic Fiona Maddocks and soprano Miah Persson.
