Mezzo Yana Mann Set for Carnegie Hall Debut in 2022

By David Salazar

Mezzo-soprano Yana Mann is set to make her North American debut at Carnegie Hall on Feb. 10, 2022.

Mann will perform alongside pianist Julián De La Chica. The duo will world premiere De La Chica’s “10 Poemas de Bar” and his “Arias Florentinas.”

“There are several reasons this concert is so important to both of us. Musically, minimalism is the axis and point of reference in my music. The cycle of 11 Bar Poems and the Florentine Arias present the aesthetic of minimalism in all its definition: a genre whose champions tend to be American. So, a Latin composer, sharing minimalist works, premiering at Carnegie Hall is a hugely significant moment in my career,” De La Chica told OperaWire. “Finally, I want to mention that the experience of premiering this work with Yana is really wonderful. Yana is extraordinary, like a fadista in classical music. Her voice is really beautiful and dark, which I love. Also Yana has connected with my music in a unique way, and we both have a wonderful musical connection.”

“In the world of music, this is a great treasure. Yana has a need to search, as I do, for the details. She is curious, and details are everything to her. I’m the same, that’s why I think it will be a wonderful concert.”

Mann is set to release her second studio album in January; this album also features De La Chica and his “Paisajes Nihilistas.” Mann is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music and the Tchaikovsky Academic Music College at the Moscow State Conservatory. She has worked and performed at a number of theaters, including the Mariinsky Theatre and St. Petersburg Philharmonic.
