By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera announced that it will offer free tickets for each of its productions to federal government employees affected by the ongoing government shutdown.

The offer will be available for all performances from Jan. 19 through Jan. 31, 2019. The performances will exclude the Jan. 26 of “Carmen,” which is set to be broadcast live around the world in cinemas.

The eligible workers will be able to reserve a pair of tickets per person per performance, subject to availability.

Workers can obtain the tickets by telephone (212-362-6000) or in person at the Met box office. A valid government ID must be presented when collecting tickets and tickets will be handed by availbility.

The 12 performances that will qualify for the free tickets include Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” (January 19, 22, 25 and 31); Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” (January 19, 23 and 26); Bizet’s “Carmen” (January 21 and 29); the double bill of Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” and Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s” Castle (January 24 and 28); and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” (January 30).
