
Metropolitan Opera to Get New ‘Khovanschina’ production

The Metropolitan Opera is set to present a new production of Mussorgsky’s “Khovanschina” in a future season.
The New York Times is reporting that the production by Simon McBurney premiering at the Salzburg Easter Festival “will travel to New York in the future.”
The new production will showcase a new ending by composer, musicologist, and author Gerard McBurney, who completed a new version of “Khovanshchina.”
“Khovanschina” was last performed at the Metropolitan Opera in 2012 with Misha Didyk, Olga Borodina, Ildar Abdrazakov, Vladimir Galouzine, George Gagnidze, and Wendy Bryn Harmer in a production by August Everding. The work had its Met premiere in 1950 in an English translation and has been performed 38 times at the company.
