Metropolitan Opera to Display Ukrainian Flag for Four Weeks

By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera has announced that it will display the Ukrainian flag in the front facade for the next four weeks.

In a statement, the company said, “For the next four weeks, the Met will display Ukrainian flags on the façade of the opera house as part of an international campaign to thank Ukraine for defending democracy for the free world. The Met is proud to support Ukraine on their path to victory and freedom.”

The news comes as the Met has been supporting Ukraine over the past year bringing soldiers to a performance “Tosca” with Liudmyla Monastryska and creating an internship program as part of the Met’s ongoing support for Ukraine, in partnership with the Ukrainian Habitat fund. The company also held two concerts in support of Ukraine and created the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra.
