The Metropolitan Opera has released numbers for its first half of its 2025-26 season.

According to a report from the Associated Press, the first half of the 2025-26 season has seen ticket sales rise to 72 percent from 70 percent in the first half of 2024-25.

General Manager Peter Gelb noted that the sales have come back to what they were pre-pandemic and added, “We’re not grossing as much money because the average price per ticket is slightly less than it was, because we have a younger audience and more discounted tickets.”

The press release also released the numbers for the first half’s productions. At the top was Mason Bates’ “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay,” which sold 84 percent of tickets.

Next up was the company’s ever-popular Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” with 83 percent Bellini’s “I Puritani” which starred Lisette Oropesa sold 82 percent followed by Puccini’s “Turandot” which saw 77 percent of tickets sold. The production returns in the spring.

Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” starring Ailyn Pérez sold 74 percent, while “The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess” only got 73 percent tickets sold after having been a huge hit during the 2019-20 season.

However, many classic works did not fare quite as well as Donizetti’s “La Fille du Régiment,” Bizet’s “Carmen,” Bellini’s “La Sonnambula” and “Bohème” only sold 68 percent. It didn’t get any better with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Strauss’ “Arabella” which only sold 64 percent of tickets. Finally Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier,” which starred superstars Piotr Beczala and Sonya Yoncheva, only sold 57 percent.
