
Metropolitan Opera Showcases Last Minute Debut for ‘The Queen of Spades’
By Francisco SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera saw a huge debut at the June 4 performance of “The Queen of Spades.”
Galina Cheplakova sang the role of Lisa stepping in for Sonya Yoncheva.
Cheplakova has performed with the Bashkir State Opera, Oper Graz, the State Opera in Kazakhstan, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and Berliner Philharmoniker. She has also covered at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
Her repertoire includes “Francesca da Rimini,” “La traviata,” “Eugene Onegin,” “La Boheme,” “Aleko,” and “Iolanta.”
Cheplakova joined a cast that included Arsen Soghomonyan, Violeta Urmana, Igor Golavatenko, Alexey Markov, and Maria Barakova. Keri-Lynn Wilson conducted the production of Elijah Moshinsky.
Yoncheva returns to the production for the final performance on June 7.
