The Metropolitan Opera has announced the cast for its 2020-21 opening night production of Verdi’s “Aida.”

In a New York Times articles, Peter Gelb announced that  Anna Netrebko, Anita Rachvelishvili, Piotr Beczala, and Ludovic Tézier will star in the leading roles of “Aida.”

The general manager also noted that the new production by Michael Mayer “will be as epic and grand as the current production in a completely different way.” He also announced that the new production will eliminate one of the current staging’s two intermissions and it will feature projections by Mark Grimmer of 59 Productions.

The current production of “Aida” is set to retire at the end of this season after 31 years. Plácido Domingo conducts the production he opened alongside Sondra Radvanovsky, Jorge de Leon and Olesya Petrova.
