The Metropolitan Opera and the New York City Mayor’s Office have teamed up to distribute 70,000 tickets to New Yorkers.

The company announced the news stating, “Every New Yorker should have the opportunity to experience the Metropolitan Opera, regardless of income or background. The Met is not just a globally recognized cultural icon; it is also New York’s opera house, an essential institution that truly belongs to the city’s residents.”

In an ad, Mayor Mamdani states that the Met will release 10,000 tickets a month from September through June via a lottery and the tickets will be free. The Mayor also noted that the partnership will be ongoing every year.
