Metropolitan Opera Live in HD 2019-20 Preview: Eric Owens & Angel Blue Star in ‘Porgy and Bess’

The Met Opera’s Live in HD series for the 2019-20 season continues this Saturday, Feb. 1, 2019 with a transmission of the Gershwins’ “Porgy and Bess.”

The broadcast, which kicks off 12:55 p.m. Eastern time and is set to end before 5 p.m. local time. It will star Angel Blue and Eric Owens in the titular roles alongside Latonia Moore, Denyce Graves, Alfred Walker, Donovan Singletary, Golda Schultz, and Frederick Ballentine. David Robertson is set to conduct.

Of the opening night performance of this production, OperaWire’s review noted that “On the whole, audiences will likely walk away thrilled at this new “Porgy and Bess,” the result of smart casting and a solid conception of a classic work.”

This is the fifth Live in HD transmission of the season. It will be followed by “Agrippina” on Feb. 29, “Der Fliegende Holländer” on March 14, “Tosca” on April 11, and “Maria Stuarda” on May 9, 2020.
