
Metropolitan Opera Celebrates Paul Tazewell’s Oscar Win

The company shared a story congratulating the costume designer stating, “Bravo to costume designer Paul Tazewell for his Oscar win for Costume Design. Tazewell designed costumes for the Met Productions of Terence Blanchard’s ‘Fire Shut up in My Bones’ (2021) and Gound’s ‘Faust’ (2011).”
Tazewell won his Oscar for “Wicked” and became the first Black male costume designer to win the award. This was his second Oscar nomination following a nomination back in 2022 for “West Side Story.”
Tazewell has designed for opera throughout his career at the Glimmerglass Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, and English National Opera.
