Metropolitan Opera Celebrates ‘Oppenheimer’ with Free ‘Dr. Atomic’ Stream

By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera is celebrating the opening of “Oppenheimer” by streaming a 2008 production of John Adams’s “Doctor Atomic” for free.

The production, which will be available to audiences for free through July 28, stars bass-baritone Gerald Finley as Oppenheimer and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke as Kitty Oppenheimer.

Alan Gilbert conducts the opera which also stars Richard Paul Fink and Thomas Glenn.

The opera was recorded in 2008 in a production by Penny Woolcock and received a Grammy award for Best Opera Recording.

Like the Christopher Nolan film, the opera presents the human face of the scientists, military men, and others who were involved in the creation of the atomic bomb.

“Oppenheimer” is now in theaters and Cillian Murphy stars.
