Metropolitan Opera Announces Summer Encores & Confirms 2021-22 HD Performances

The Metropolitan Opera has announced its Summer Encore Live in HD series.

The Summer Encore titles in the United States will be Gershwins’ “Porgy and Bess,” Bizet’s “Carmen,” and Puccini’s “Tosca.”

“Porgy and Bess” will be showcased on July 14 starring Angel Blue and Eric Owens while “Carmen” will be in movie theaters on Juky 28 starring Elīna Garanča and Roberto Alagna. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the 2010 HD.

Finally “Tosca” will be screened on August 4 in a production that stars Sonya Yoncheva, Vittorio Grigolo, and Željko Lučić. The 2018 HD was conducted by Emmanuel Villaume.

The summer encores will be screened in anticipation for the Metropolitan Opera’s 2021-22 HD season which will feature Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov,” Terence Blanchard’s “Fire Shut Up in My Bones,” Matthew Aucoin’s “Eurydice,” Massenet’s “Cinderella,” Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” Strauss’s “Ariadne auf Naxos,” Verdi’s “Don Carlos,” Puccini’s “Turandot,” Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor,” and Brett Dean’s “Hamlet.”
