Metropolitan Opera Announces Some of Daniele Rustioni’s Upcoming Operas
By Francisco SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera has announced plans for Daniele Rustioni in the company’s seasons.
In a New York Times article, the principal guest conductor revealed that he will lead at least one blockbuster title a season, including “Tosca” and “Turandot.” He is also scheduled to do a revival of Verdi’s “Otello” and a new production of “Simon Boccanegra.”
There are also plans for Rustioni to conduct Berg’s “Lulu.”
In the interview, General Manager Peter Gelb said the reason for the house to have a Principal Guest Conductor was due to Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin’s busy schedule. He said, “Yannick is in such demand, in so many places, that he’s conducting an average of four operas a year at the Met…If someone like Daniele can take two or three more, it can only make the Met better.”
Rustioni is currently conducting the company’s revival of “La Bohème” and “Don Giovanni.” He is set to open a revival of “Andrea Chenier” with Sonya Yoncheva and Piotr Beczala.
The Italian conductor was named the principal guest conductor of the Metropolitan Opera in 2024 and will conduct a minimum of two operas per season.
