Metropolitan Opera Announces New Cast Change for ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its performance of “Un Ballo in Maschera” on Nov 11, 2023.

The company said that the role of Oscar will be sung by Marielle Murphy, making her Met debut. Murphy will replace Liv Redpath.

Murphy is a soprano who has performed at the Salzburg Festival, Theater Aachen, Oper Leipzig, Opera Bern, Theater für Niedersachsen, and Theater Münster. She has won awards from such competitions as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the George London Foundation, the Licia Albanese – Puccini Foundation, the New Jersey State Opera, the Henry and Maria Holt Scholarship, and the Carmel Music Society.

Murphy is set to join a cast that includes Angela Meade, Olesya Petrova, Charles Castronovo, and Quinn Kelsey. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production by David Alden.
