By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “The Rake’s Progress.”

The company noted that Raehann Bryce-Davis will make her house debut performing the role of Baba the Turk. The mezzo will replace Alice Coote, who was originally announced.

Bryce-Davis was at the Teatro alla scala where she was to make her house debut in “Un Ballo in Maschera” on May 14. However, she will now be replaced by Yulia Matochkina. Bryce-Davis has performed at the Glimmerglass Festival, La Monnaie, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Theater an der Wien, and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.

The mezzo joins a cast that includes Golda Schultz, Ben Bliss, Christian Van Horn, and James Creswell. Susanna Mälkki conducts the production.

“The Rake’s Progress” will be performed four times from May 30 through June 11, 2022.
