Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for Spring Performances of ‘Rigoletto’

By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its spring run of “Rigoletto.”

The company noted that Erin Morley will sing the role of Gilda on May 28 through June 11 replacing the originally announced Kristina Mkhitaryan, who has withdrawn from the production.

The opera will mark Morley’s return to the Met following her acclaimed turn as “Eurydice” in Matthew Aucoin’s new work this past fall. The soprano will perform the Bartlett Sher production of “Rigoletto” at the Staatsoper Berlin in February and has previously performed the role of Gilda at the Wiener Staatsoper.

Morley joins a cast that includes Quinn Kelsey in the title role and  Stephen Costello as the Duke of Mantua. In their Met debuts, Yulia Matochkina sings Maddalena and Ante Jerkunica sings Sparafucile. Karel Mark Chichon conducts.
