Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Norma’

By Francisco Salazar

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its March 22 performance of Bellini’s “Norma.”

The company said, “for this evening’s performance of Bellini’s ‘Norma,’ the title role will be sung by Helena Dix.”

Dix returns to the Met after making her debut in 2019 as Alice Ford. The soprano is a bel canto specialist who has performed at the Melbourne Opera, English National Opera, Wexford Opera, and Chelsea Opera Group.

This is the second performance Yoncheva cancels following the soprano’s criticism of the New York Times where she dismissed Zachary Wolfe’s comparision of her and Angel Blue.

Dix joins a cast that includes Ekaterina Gubanova, Christian Van Horn and Michael Spyres.

Yoncheva returns for the final performance March 25.
