Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Madama Butterfly.”

The company noted that Viktor Antipenko makes his Met debut as Pinkerton, replacing Brian Jagde. 

Antipenko has performed at the Dallas Opera, the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, Theater Chemnitz, SUGI Opera in South Korea, and a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre. He has also performed at the Bolshoi Theatre, Ópera de Oviedo, Opéra de Rouen, Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, Opéra de Lyon, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, and Hawaii Opera Theater.

The Russian tenor will join a cast that includes Eleonora Buratto, Elizabeth DeShong, and David Bizic. Alexander Soddy conducts the production by Anthony Minghella.

Jagde returns for the final performance on May 7, 2022.
