Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Florencia en el Amazonas’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its opening night performance of “Florencia en el Amazonas.”

The company said, “For tonight’s performance, the role of the Captain will be sung by David Pittsinger, replacing Greer Grimsley.”

Pittsinger made his Met debut in 2017 as Le Bret in “Cyrano de Bergerac. The bass has performed the role of the Captain at the Houston Grand Opera and LA Opera.

The bass is set to join a cast that includes Ailyn Pérez, Gabriella Reyes, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Mario Chang, Michael Chioldi, and Mattia Olivieri. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the production by Mary Zimmerman.

Grimsley returns to the production on Nov. 19, 2023.
