Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change For ‘Der Rosenkavalier’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change in “Der Rosenkavalier” on Dec. 28, 2019 with conductor Gareth Morrell replacing Sir. Simon Rattle in the performance.

Morrell made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1999 in Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and has conducted 21 performances since his debut. He has also led musical performances of “Fidelio,” “Don Giovanni,” “Aida,” “La Bohème,” “Tosca,” and “Semiramide” with the company. His last performance at the Met was on April 4, 2018, in “Lucia di Lammermoor” alongside Olga Peretyatko and Vittorio Grigolo.

Morrell joins a cast that includes Katie Van Kooten, Angela Brower, Golda Schultz, Matthew Polenzani, Günther Groissböck, and Markus Eiche.

“Der Rosenkavalier” opens on Dec. 13  and runs through Jan. 4, 2019. Camilla Nylund and Magdalena Kožená also star in the revival.
