The Metropolitan Opera and Brooklyn Academy of Music have announced a collaboration to present Missy Mazzoli’s “Breaking the Waves.” The opera will be performed starting on June 23- 30, 2020 with Sydney Mancasola as Bess McNeill, Wallis Giunta as Dodo, and Duncan Rock as Jan.

The Metropolitan Opera announced that Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the opera with the Metropolitan Opera orchestra and the chorus of the Scottish Opera participation in production by Tom Morris.

The opera, which was written by Royce Vavrek, had its world premiere at Opera Philadelphia followed by performances at the New York Prototype Festival and the Edinburgh Festival.

The collaboration marks the first opera collaboration between the Metropolitan Opera and BAM after it was announced in 2018 that these two organizations would work together at some point in the near future.
