Metropolitan Opera Adds Performances & Live in HD Screenings of ‘The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay’
By David SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera has done the unthinkable – the company has announced four additional performances of Mason Bates’s “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” this season.
The opera, which opened the season and was only set to run until Oct. 11, 2025, will now get additional performances on Feb. 17, 18, 20, and 21, 2026. Moreover, the opera will also be added to the comapny’s Live in HD slot; the performance on Oct. 2, 2025 was recorded and will get screened in cinemas on Jan. 24, 2026.
Per an official press release, the company revealed that the decision came after the opera sold out its final performances with audience data showing that the production drew notably new and younger patrons with 35 percent being first-time Met attendees, 50 percent being under age 50, and 30 being were under 40.
The original cast returns for the encore performances, including baritone Andrzej Filończyk as Joe Kavalier, tenor Miles Mykkanen as Sam Clay, soprano Lauren Snouffer as Sarah Kavalier, mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce as Rosa Saks, baritone Edward Nelson as Tracy Bacon, and bass-baritones Patrick Carfizzi and Craig Colclough as Sheldon Anapol and Gerhard. Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the final performance on February 21, while Michael Christie makes his Met debut leading the February 17, 18, and 20 performances.
Of the production, OperaWire’s review noted that “the opera itself emphasized that art not only has a place in a declining society, but is crucial to it.”
