The Met Orchestra will be making a $17,000 donation to the National Opera of Ukraine Orchestra.

The funds were raised as part of a fundraiser aimed at supporting musicians suffering during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Per a press statement, the idea for the fundraiser emerged during rehearsals for the Met Opera’s “Concert for Ukraine” on March 14, 2022.

“The artists of the National Opera of Ukraine are deeply touched by the sense of fraternal solidarity exhibited by the musicians of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra,” said a representative of the National Opera regarding the support. “Your sincere moral and financial support in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine is eloquent confirmation that you, just like us, condemn the barbaric actions against Ukraine. We are equally confident that the unity of the masters of art will be an important component of our victory!”

The funds were wire-transferred directly from the Met Musicians to their Ukrainian counterparts.
