Met Opera’s ‘Manon’ To Be Broadcast on PBS Great Performances This January

PBS will present the Live in HD broadcast of “Manon” from the Metropolitan Opera on Jan. 5, 2020 as it kicks off the 2019-20 Great Performances Series. 

The broadcast will kick off at 12 p.m. EDT and features Lisette Oropesa in the title role with Michael Fabiano as her lover Chevalier des Grieux. Artur Rucinski, Brett Polegato, Kwangchul Youn, and Carlo Bosi rounds out the cast, which is conducted by Maurizio Benini. Nadine Sierra hosts the performance.

Of the production, OperaWire’s review noted, “Massenet’s “Manon” is a masterpiece and this staging, with a vibrant young cast, was a strong reminder of that fact”

Next up on the PBS Great Performances showcases from the Metropolitan Opera will be “Turandot,” followed by “Madama Butterfly,” “Akhnaten,” “Wozzeck,” “Porgy and Bess,” “Agrippina,” “Der Fliegende Holländer,” “Tosca,” and “Maria Stuarda.”
