Met Opera Announces Event To Commemorate Jessye Norman’s Life & Career

The Metropolitan Opera has announced that it will be hosting a celebration in honor of legendary soprano Jessye Norman on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019. Norman passed away on Sept. 30, 2019.

The event, which will be open to the public, will feature perforamcnes from leading artists as including J’Nai Bridges, Lise Davidsen, Leah Hawkins, Latonia Moore, and Eric Owens. There will also be performances by the Met Opera’s “Porgy and Bess” chorus, pianist Mark Markham, composer / pianist Damien Sneed, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and members of the Met Opera Chorus.

There will also be a series of high profile speakers, including James Howard Norman, Elaine Norman Sturkey, Anna Deavere Smith, Gloria Steinem, Clive Gillinson, Darren Walker, Peter Gelb, and the French former Minister of Culture Jack Lang.

The event will kick off at 3 p.m.
