Met Opera 2018-19 Live in HD Preview: Christine Goerke Stars in ‘Die Walküre’

The Met Opera will continue off its Live in HD series this March 30, 2019 with a performance of Wagner’s “Die Walküre.”

The broadcast, which kicks off 11:55 p.m. Eastern time, will showcase Christine Goerke as Brünnhilde in her first Live in HD broadcast performance. Eva-Maria Westbroek, fresh off her recent HD appearance in “La Fanciulla del West” will appear as Sieglinde; she also appeared in the previous HD transmission of this production of “Die Walküre.”

Jamie Barton will appear as Fricka while Stuart Skelton will be Siegmund. Greer Grimsley will interpret Wotan while Günther Groissböck will be Hunding. This will be Barton’s third Live in HD performance after “Rusalka” and “Nabucco.”Groissböck previously appeared in the streamed performance of “Der Rosenkavalier.”

There will be an encore screening of the performance on April 3, 2019.

This is the penultimate Live in HD transmission of the season. It will be followed “Dialogues des Carmélites” on May 11.
