Merola Opera Programs Reveals 2019 Young Artists & Performances

The Merola Opera Program has announced its 62nd season, which will feature 29 artists from all around the world.

This year’s artists will include eight sopranos, four mezzo-sopranos, five tenors, four baritones, two bass-baritones, and one bass to go along with one apprentice stage director, and five apprentice coaches.

The sopranos are Anna Duga, Chelsea Lehnea, Anne-Marie MacIntosh, Amber Monroe, Hyeree Shin, Elisa Sunshine, Esther Tonea, and Patricia Westley; six of the eight are from the U.S. while Shin is from Korea and MacIntosh hails from Canada.

Brenna Blankenship, Alice Chung, Cara Collins, and Edith Grossman (all Americans) make up the group of mezzo-sopranos.

All of the tenors are also Americans. They include Salvatore Atti, Michael Day, Nicholas Huff, Brandon Russell, and Victor Starsky.

Jeff Byrnes, Edward Laurenson, Timothy Murray, and Laureano Quant are the baritones; Quant is Colombian and Laurenson is from New Zealand. Andrew Dwan and Brazilian Rafael Porto are the bass-baritones while Minnesota’s Stefan Egerstrom is the lone bass.

The program will feature its Schwabacher Summer Concert on July 11 and 13 before showcasing the world premiere of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s “If I Were You.” The Merola Grand Finale takes place on August 17, 2019.
