Merola Opera Program Announces New Performer At Schwabacher Recital

By David Salazar

The Merola Opera Program has announced a cast change for its April 24 Schwabacher Recital.

Per a press release, soprano Patricia Westley is set to appear in lieu of Mary Evelyn Hangley. Hangley has reportedly withdrawn from the recital for personal reasons.

Westley, who is slated to take on the role of Selena in the world premiere of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer’s “If I Were You,” will join mezzo-soprano Ashley Dixon, tenor Zhengyi Bai, and bass-baritone Christian Pursell on the concert. It will feature music by Samuel Barber, Hugo Wolf, and Johannes Brahms. Pianist Martin Katz will also perform with the singers.

The concert will take place at the Taube Atrium Theater.
