Parterre Box founder James Jorden will be celebrated in a memorial on Feb. 3, 2024 at 2 p.m.

The memorial will be held in Adler Hall at the Society for Ethical Culture in New York and it will celebrate the life and legacy of the writer.

Jorden passed in October of 2023 at the age of 69. He was a highly influential writer who spent over 20 years as an opera critic for the New York Times, Gay City News, Opera Now, Musical America, and the New York Post.

He also served as a commentator on the WQXR program Operavore and was a journalist for the New York Observer. The New York Times profiled Jorden about Parterre which was then celebrating its 25 years, calling it “the most essential blog in opera.”
