Melody Wilson & Guadalupe Paz Lead San Diego Opera’s ‘Carmen’

San Diego Opera is sett o present Bizet’s “Carmen” at the San Diego Civic Theater.

The production, which will be performed on March 27 – 29, 2026, will star mezzo-soprano Melody Wilson in her role debut as Carmen alternating  with mezzo-soprano Guadalupe Paz singing the title role.

They will star alongside tenors Thomas Kinch and Jonny Kaufman as Don José, soprano Lydia Grindatto in her company and role debut as Micaëla and baritone Aleksey Bogdanov as Escamillo.

Louis Lohraseb will make his company debut conducting the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and Keturah Stickann will direct.

San Diego Opera will showcase “Carmen at Opera Uncorked” on March 12 in the lead up to the production. The event includes an insightful presentation by Resident Conductor Bruce Stasyna and excerpts from the opera performed by brilliant local or visiting artists, all accompanied by wine and light bites.
