Melbourne to Hold Memorial Concert for Max Riebl
By Francisco SalazarThe Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne is set to pay tribute to the late countertenor Max Riebl.
In a statement, the venue said, “the Riebl family presents a musical tribute to Max Riebl for one night only at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne. This intimate show includes live performances from Rose Riebl, Felix Riebl, and members of The Cat Empire.”
The statement added, “a celebrated countertenor, Max Riebl had an illustrious career spanning across Australia and overseas in his incredible 30 years of life. This intimate show will launch Max’s posthumous album ‘Max Riebl: Live at Chapel Off Chapel’ with a collection of songs recorded at the venue.
The tickets for the concert will go to support Riebl’s children.
The concert comes less than a year after the countertenor died at the age of 30 due to incurable cancer. He performed at the Vienna Concert House, Musikverein, the Royal Albert Hall, Pinchgut Opera, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Opera, La Cetra Baroque Orchestra, London Handel Orchestra, The Song Company, Adelaide Baroque and Orchestra Victoria. Other venues included the Melbourne Recital Centre, Hamer Hall at Arts Centre Melbourne, the Athenaeum Theatre, and Sydney’s City Recital Hall.
