Megan Marino & Michael Mayes Take on Crossover Project at The Midnight Cricket Club
By David SalazarMichael Mayes and Megan Marino will join forces with two bluegrass artists to perform as a new band at The Midnight Cricket Club between May 25 through 30.
Marino and Mayes, billed as “genre-mixing opera singing spouses by trade,” will team up with KC Groves and Jason Hicks as a new band. Groves will perform vocals, mandolin, guitar, and bass while Hicks will perform vocals and guitar. Mayes will also perform guitar and vocals while Marino will perform voice and melodeon. The ensemble will perform a wide range of music including jazz, bluegrass, and opera, among others.
“During the long COVID summer nights of 2020, four professional musicians from Lyons Colorado found themselves under an enormous cottonwood tree singing and playing the loneliness away,” Groves said in a press release. “Two opera singers and two bluegrass musicians found common ground and a unique sound which we are excited to bring to the Creede Hotel for six days of meaningful music.”
Mayes’ upcoming slate includes performances of “Il Trovatore” at the Glimmerglass Festival. Meanwhile, Marino is set for performances of “Le Nozze di Figaro” at Santa Fe Opera.
