Max Lifchitz To Celebrate 70th Birthday With NY Concert

By David Salazar

Composer/Conductor Max Lifchitz will appear with the North/South Chamber Orchestra in concert on Nov. 11, 2018 at the Christ and St. Stephen’s Church in Manhattan.

The concert, which will commemorate the composer’s 70th birthday, will feature soprano Sandra Moon to appear in the song cycle “Forget Me Not,” which was completed in 2014 and deals “with descriptions of nature as well as feelings of loss, euphoria and gaiety based on poetry by the 19th century American writer Lillian E. Curtis.”

Moon has previously performed at numerous opera houses in Cologne, Dresden, Linz, Munich, Bonn, Leipzig, Paris, and Vienna. She also appeared at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Metropolitan Opera.

The program will also feature three other pieces by Lifchitz, including “Expressions,” “Brightness Aloft,” and “Fire Within.”

Lifchitz is a former Juilliard School alumnus who has been award grants from such organizations as ASCAP, Ford and Guggenheim Foundations; the New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artists Program; and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The event is free of admission.
