Matthew Polenzani, Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, Samantha Hankey, Matthias Goerne, Karen Slack Headline Ravinia Festival’s 2024 Season

Illinois’ Ravinia Festival has announced its 2024 edition. Here is a rundown of the vocal works on offer.

First up is a concert featuring the Chicago Symphony Orchester under Marin Alsop. Soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha performs Barber’s “Knoxville: Summer of 1915.” Also on the program are works by Copland, Gershwin, and James P. Johnson.

Performance Date: July 12, 2024

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra performs a semi-staged presentation of “Idomeneo” with Matthew Polenzani, Andrea Carroll, Samantha Hankey, and Alexandria Shiner. James Conlon conducts.

Performance Date: August 9 & 11, 2024

Karen Slack and pianist Kevin Miller present “African Queens.”

Performance Date: August 1, 2024

The Ravinia Steans Music Institute presents a series of concerts as part of its three-week residency for singers. First up is “Songs for Ode to Joy,” curated by dramaturg and RSMI faculty member Cori Ellison.

Matthias Goerne and Anton Mejias present an evening of Schubert songs.

Also from the Ravinia Steans Music Institute is “Mentor in Torment: The Complicated Friendship of Franz Schubert and Johann Mayrofer.” The showcase is hosted by Graham Johnson.
