By Nicole Kuchta

MasterVoices will open its 2019-20 season next month with a concert version of George and Ira Gershwin’s “Let ‘Em Eat Cake,” a “musical take on a presidential re-election gone haywire.”

The 1933 sequel to “Of Thee I Sing” continues the story of populist U.S. President John P. Wintergreen, who is voted out of office and stages a coup in an effort to regain his power.

MasterVoices favorites dominate the cast, featuring Bryce Pinkham as John P. Wintergreen, Mikaela Bennett as Mary Wintergreen, Christopher Fitzgerald as Kruger, Kevin Chamberlin as Alexander Throttlebottom, Fred Applegate as Francis X. Gilhooley, Chuck Cooper as Matthew Fulton, and Lewis J. Stadlen as Louis Lippman. Artistic Director Ted Sperling will conduct Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

The performance will take place at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019.
